Evolving Industry

How the Pet Food Franchise Industry is Evolving

Mimicking human trends
There’s been an undeniable uptick in the public’s desire to eat healthier. This desire has in turn been met with more and more options that accommodate gluten free, Non-GMO, raw foods diets etc. More and more of these trends can now be found in pet foods as well.
Only the best for Fido
It’s becoming exceedingly common to see pet meal options that read like entrees off the menu of your favorite restaurant. From ravioli to casseroles to birthday cakes, pets are enjoying versions of human food engineered to their tastes. Their foods also now include exotic meats and seasonal options.
DIY pet food
It’s often said that if you want something done well you’ve got to do it yourself. Nowhere has this philosophy been applied better than in the food industry. Pet owners across the country are rolling up their sleeves and making their own pet food. The DIY option is especially appealing because it involves minimal processing and opens the opportunity for personalization.
Targeted foods/ Preventative foods
With pets being increasingly susceptible to the same illnesses that we are, many pet foods are now creating food options chock full of specific ingredients for targeted dietary and health needs.
Clean labels and transparency
Now more than ever, pet parents are taking greater care to read the labels on pet food. The expectation from health-conscious pet parents is that they should be able to recognize all if not most of the major ingredients in the form of protein, grain and the like.
Local sourcing
Another food trend that has trickled into the pet food industry is the idea of locally sourced food. The appeal behind locally sourced food or “farm to table” is knowing where your food comes from. For many pet owners, this desire extends to their pet’s food as well and knowing that the ingredients not only support a local supplier, but are guaranteed fresh as well.
