Franchise Gator ranked Wag N’ Wash Natural Food & Bakery as the #1 Emerging Franchise Brand for 2019. Wag N’ Wash also ranked as #14 on Franchise Gator’s Fastest Growing Franchise list and #97 in the Top 100 Franchise list.
Eric Bell, General Manager of Franchise Gator said, “Franchise Gator has been publishing the Top 100, as well as the accompanying Fastest Growing and Top Emerging franchises list, for 6 years now. It’s very rare for us to come across a franchise system that has all of the qualifications to appear on all 3 lists in one year like Wag N’ Wash did in 2019. They check off a lot of the boxes. Their FDD notes strong growth both in units and financially, exactly what you want to see from an emerging brand. Their presence on all 3 Franchise Gator lists is well deserved. Congratulations to Wag N’ Wash!”
“We are incredibly excited to be recognized by Franchise Gator! Being named as the #1 Emerging Franchise Brand is a testament to our PAWprietors (franchise partners) and WHQ team (Wag Headquarters) who strive every day to enhance the lives of companion pets across the planet. We look forward to an exciting 2019 and to keep ‘em wagging,” said Wag N’ Wash Natural Food & Bakery President & Pack Leader Rob Flanagan.
This is the sixth year that the online franchise directory has published a Top Emerging ranking. The list was created to help identify developing franchises with 50 or fewer units that have shown promising signs of strong growth. The focus of the Top Emerging list is not just to highlight brands on the rise, but also at a price point that was in line with the average prospect exploring franchise opportunities. Rankings are based on information provided in Franchise Disclosure Documents.
“Strong growth is one of many areas a prospective franchisee can look at when evaluating a franchise brand,” said Eric Bell, General Manager at Franchise Gator. “Total unit count is important as every franchise company’s mission is to increase their footprint as it makes the whole system much healthier.”
In 2018 Franchise Gator named Wag N’ Wash as #4 on the Emerging Franchise Brand list and #48 on the Fastest Growing Franchise rankings. 2018 Franchise Gator Rankings
Franchise Times Magazine paid a surprise visit to Wag N’ Wash for FT Undercover in the April 2019 edition!
Check out Nicholas Upton and his precious companion pet Olive’s account of their spa day with us at http://bit.ly/2I2mPRv. We’re happy to report that Olive and her nervous guardians survived a self wash and nail trim. Freshly baked natural treats and new toys helped a lot!
The Wag N’ Wash Natural Pet Food & Grooming promise to customers is “we love your companion pet as much as you do.” Our mission is to help guardians express their feelings by providing products and services they can trust to “wash ‘em, feed ‘em, spoil ‘em and love ‘em” in every single store visit. These actions allow us to strengthen the bond between guardian and companion.
Wag N’ Wash stores operate with a solution focused approach. Team members receive extensive training to help find the best option for companions who experience dietary issues, stress, hot spots, joint pain and many other concerns.
We stand behind the advice and the products. Customers may return a product at any time for a full refund. This eliminates worry about whether the companion will thrive with a new food or experience greater mobility after trying a supplement. Returned products that do not have to go back to distributors are donated to rescues to help others in our communities.
We know we have hit the mark when customers post positive reviews.
A Fort Worth, TX customer posted this review on Yelp:
“Great place with great people for our dogs! We have a Great Dane and a German Shepherd so we need a bigger facility to bathe our dogs. This is big with great equipment and quality shampoos and conditioner. We buy all our dog food here and the staff/owners are friendly and helpful – they call our dogs by name when we come in. I seldom do reviews, but these people and this place are 5 star plus!!”
Here’s a review a Wag N’ Wash Eagan customer posted recently on Facebook:
“I have had so many great experiences here! My boyfriend and I bring our foster dogs here for grooming. Michael has worked with a couple of them and has done an amazing job! We recently went in for a self-service wash and the staff there was so friendly and patient with us. We had a new foster with us who was scared of everyone, so the bath took us to a little past close and the gals cleaning the area didn’t mind at all. They were so understanding of our situation and didn’t try to rush us out! I have also had a couple birthday cakes made here and the dogs have loved them!”
A California, MD customer shared this review on Google:
“Love this shop … Staff are so friendly and helpful! If one person doesn’t know the answer to your question, they will find out for you. Feel very welcome every time I come here. Have used self-wash, taken classes, purchased home baked treats and ear medications. I couldn’t be happier with such a personable and professional pet store. Thank you very much!!”

At Wag N’ Wash Natural Pet Food & Grooming the selection of franchisees is all about fit. That means our business emphasis shifts from growth and opening stores to making sure our owner / operators understand our philosophy and have similar goals.
We look for people who can function as cultural co-founders and understand that the brand promise of “we love your companion pet as much as you do” guides our day-to-day activities. We seek business partners and take extra steps to make sure there is a good fit before candidates get too far in the process.
“This is important not only for a potential franchisee, but for the franchisor. Just last week during a phone call with a prospect it was clear that the timing of opening a Wag N’ Wash (the prospect dream) didn’t align with their family just yet. I think a lot of franchisors would have looked the other way, but we do things a little different at the Wag,” said Rob Flanagan, President & Pack Leader.
With a focus on partners that get the “Wag” and our mission to enhance the lives of companion animals as well as run a profitable business, we want to grow a generational business. Our growth strategy is based on the foundation that some of our goals may not happen in our lifetime. We want our grandchildren to experience the vision as much as we do.
“We are very fortunate in our approach to finances. Our operational expenses are 100% covered by our royalty revenue. We don’t have to sell an agreement to make sure we make payroll. This allows us to make sure we are strategic in our approach,” explained Flanagan.
Part of our strategy is to reimagine our footprint to open up the potential that comes with lower build out costs. We are excited about our new footprint model. “In the past the minimum square footage was around 3,500. Starting in 2019 we are exploring smaller footprints with a lower build out expense. This opens more real estate opportunities,” said Flanagan.
By focusing on the right fits, Wag N’ Wash has grown from nine locations in 2016 to 19 in 2019. The pet industry itself continues to achieve unparalleled growth. In 2018 the American Pet Products Association estimates spending on pet products at $72.13 billion. Spending is forecast to reach $96 billion in 2020 according to Packaged Facts, a leading market research firm.

One thing that’s certain is that pet food isn’t what it used to be. All it takes is a walk down the pet aisle of a supermarket to notice the difference. The days of brown sludge and pellets are long gone and have instead been replaced with an array healthy and appetizing cuisine options. Indeed, the pet food industry itself has reported on a number of growing trends that are revolutionizing the way pets eat, but more importantly, the way pet parents want their pets to eat. Here are a few of them:
Mimicking human trends
There’s been an undeniable uptick in the public’s desire to eat healthier. This desire has in turn been met with more and more options that accommodate gluten free, Non-GMO, raw foods diets etc. More and more of these trends can now be found in pet foods as well.
Only the best for Fido
It’s becoming exceedingly common to see pet meal options that read like entrees off the menu of your favorite restaurant. From ravioli to casseroles to birthday cakes, pets are enjoying versions of human food engineered to their tastes. Their foods also now include exotic meats and seasonal options.
DIY pet food
It’s often said that if you want something done well you’ve got to do it yourself. Nowhere has this philosophy been applied better than in the food industry. Pet owners across the country are rolling up their sleeves and making their own pet food. The DIY option is especially appealing because it involves minimal processing and opens the opportunity for personalization.
Targeted foods/ Preventative foods
With pets being increasingly susceptible to the same illnesses that we are, many pet foods are now creating food options chock full of specific ingredients for targeted dietary and health needs.
Clean labels and transparency
Now more than ever, pet parents are taking greater care to read the labels on pet food. The expectation from health-conscious pet parents is that they should be able to recognize all if not most of the major ingredients in the form of protein, grain and the like.
Another food trend that has trickled into the pet food industry is the idea of locally sourced food. The appeal behind locally sourced food or “farm to table” is knowing where your food comes from. For many pet owners, this desire extends to their pet’s food as well and knowing that the ingredients not only support a local supplier, but are guaranteed fresh as well.
How these trends manifest at Wag N’ Wash
As a pet food franchise, Wag N’ Wash is not only aware of all these trends, but incorporates them into its practices as well. What this means for franchisees is that you would be buying into a franchise that sets you up for success by staying ahead of the curve. Wag N’ Wash is leading the charge on what an up-to-date pet food franchise should represent. Our focus on a variety of fresh, natural and wholesome ingredients with nutritional supplements is in line with what pet parents want for their pets.
