National Dog Day 2016
National Dog Day came and it passed with millions of people celebrating the life of their dogs. Wag N’ Wash had fun recognizing National Dog Day on KWGN in Denver, Colorado and provided a variety of their special bakery treats. These treats are made with all human grade ingredients, which both the hosts actually took a few bites! Watch the video here!
National Dog Day is a day to celebrate all dogs of any breed, pure and mixed and raises awareness to the public about the number of dogs that need to be rescued every year. This day is celebrated on August 26th every year, which was founded by the Pet and Family Lifestyle Expert and Animal Advocate, Colleen Paige, in 2004. Colleen has also founded the National Puppy, National Cat Day, National Mutt Day, and many other days to bring more attention and philanthropy to the countless homeless animals we have in our society and to encourage adoption.
Colleen chose August 26th as the specific day for National Dog Day because it is the date that her family adopted her first dog when she was 10 years old. This day acknowledges dogs for their selfless acts to bring us comfort, to save lives, and to keep us safe. Dogs play a huge role in our lives and we may not notice it at all times. They are involved in many important roles that give us the freedom and safety that we have today that humans cannot even do, like detect bombs and drugs.
Yes, National Dog Day celebrates all dogs, but wants to discourage people from buying a dog from the pet store, breeders, the internet, or newspaper ads. National Dog Day encourages people to consider adopting a dog. Dogs can be rescued at shelters and rescues where you have the opportunity to find a purebred if that is what you’re looking for. Large pet stores also have adoption drives where you can also find your furry friend!
